Understanding Hospice and When It May Help
What is Hospice Care?
Hospice care is specialized medical care focused on comfort, dignity, and quality of life for individuals with serious illness. Rather than pursuing curative treatment, hospice supports patients and families by managing symptoms, easing discomfort, and providing emotional and spiritual support.
Hospice care is provided wherever a patient calls home; including private residences, assisted living, or long-term care facilities. Our interdisciplinary team works closely with families to ensure care is compassionate, personalized, and centered on what matters most to the patient.
Hospice does not mean giving up. It means shifting the focus to comfort, peace, and meaningful moments.
When is Hospice Care Appropriate?
Hospice may be appropriate when a person is experiencing ongoing decline despite medical treatment, frequent hospitalizations, or worsening symptoms related to a serious illness.
Common indicators include increasing weakness, weight loss, decreased appetite, cognitive decline, shortness of breath, pain, or difficulty with daily activities. Families often notice that “things just aren’t the same anymore.”
If you are unsure whether hospice is the right next step, our team is available to talk through your concerns and help you understand available options.
Coverage and Financial Guidance
Many hospice services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans.
Guidance for Caregivers and Families
Caring for a Loved One at Home
Caring for someone with serious illness can feel overwhelming, especially when changes happen quickly. Hospice is designed to support families in this role by providing education, routine nursing visits, and guidance every step of the way.
You do not need to have medical training to care for your loved one. Hospice nurses teach families how to manage symptoms, provide comfort, and recognize changes that may occur. Support is available 24 hours a day for questions or concerns.
Our goal is to help you feel confident, supported, and never alone.

Hospice does not hasten death, nor does it mean care is withdrawn. Hospice care is active, attentive, and focused on comfort.
Hospice services are designed to support both patients and families through expert symptom management, emotional support, and ongoing education. Care is individualized and can be adjusted as needs change.
